Irish Bands in West Sussex

Irish music for weddings and parties in West Sussex

An Irish band turns any celebration into a proper session. In West Sussex, Irish acts are booked for weddings, St Patrick's Day parties, milestone birthdays, pub-style nights and corporate events, bringing fiddle, whistle, banjo and bodhrán along with the songs everyone knows the words to.

Whether your event is near Worthing, Petworth and Crawley or elsewhere in West Sussex, the acts on this page cover the whole area. Local venues include Upwaltham Barns, Cissbury Barns and Cowdray Estate. If you're planning a céilí, it's worth checking the size of the dance floor with the venue early on.

Not every Irish act does the same job. A trad trio is perfect for a drinks reception or dinner, a céilí band runs the evening as a participation dance, and an Irish party band mixes ballads and folk-rock with modern covers to keep the dance floor full.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every Irish act here travels to West Sussex as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £600 for a solo singer or duo to £2,500 or more for a full band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • Traditional trad, céilí, Irish folk, ballads and Celtic rock
  • Sets for a drinks reception, a céilí evening or a full party night
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

A céilí band runs the night as a series of group dances, with a caller walking guests through the steps. An Irish party band plays a set to dance to freely, mixing ballads and folk favourites with well-known covers. Some acts can do a céilí section and then a party set.

Expect to pay from around £600 for a solo singer or duo up to £2,500 or more for a full band. Line-up size matters most, then the date and extras such as a céilí caller or a longer set. Every quote includes travel, so nothing is added later.

Every act's page has video and audio of the musicians who would actually play, their repertoire and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to check the style and the atmosphere before you commit.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

The category covers traditional trad groups, céilí bands with a caller, Irish folk and ballad singers, and Celtic rock and Irish party bands that also play modern covers. Each act's page shows its style, line-up and song list.

Yes. Céilí bands come with a caller who explains each dance and walks guests through the steps, so nobody needs to know them in advance. It's one of the best ways to get a whole room dancing together.

Most do. Full bands bring their own PA and lighting; acoustic duos and trios need very little. Larger line-ups need floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue, along with any sound limiter.

From around £600 for a solo singer or duo to £2,500 or more for a full band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most acts are happy to learn a special request with enough notice, whether that's a traditional air for the ceremony, a ballad for the first dance or a family favourite. Mention it when you enquire.

As early as you can. St Patrick's weekend is the busiest time of year for Irish acts, and the best bands are often booked months ahead. For other dates, a few months' notice is usually plenty.

“Fully satisfied. Communication was very good prior to the event. We were originally anxious about going for a genre that we wouldn't normally associate with weddings. The music offered great background music an allowed people to mingle, then they stepped it up and got everyone involved and people started dancing. They helped explain to people in a fun way of what to do. All ages could get involved. We had lost of positive comments post wedding about them. 10/10.”

“Declan was absolutely fantastic. We had a zoom chat with him the week of the wedding and gave him a few ideas. Everyone on the day commented on how good he was. Kept all our guests entertained while we got our wedding photos taken too. The only bad thing was we never got to thank him in person before he left! So thank you!”

“ust wanted to thank you and all of The Sherlocks so much for an awesome night of playing on Saturday – you must hear this all the time but you really made the evening for us and all our guests have been raving about you! By the sounds of things you’ll be playing at quite a few events for our friends and family in future, so we hope to see/hear you again soon! Best wishes, Steph & Tom”

“Played at my venue a couple weeks back and absolutely rocked it! They got the crowd up and going, created an amazing atmosphere and sounded great. An added bonus that they just happen to be lovely people as well. Will definitely have them back and couldn't recommend them enough to other venues or parties!”

“Declan Daniel was amazing, he was early and performed non-stop for the full slot. He was funny and kept everyone entertained. I would highly recommend him to others and would hire him again for future events. The Hireaband team were helpful, friendly and kept in touch before the event and provided all the information we would require in case we needed it. Highly recommend their services!”
