Funk & Soul Bands in the South East

Funk and soul bands covering the whole of the South East

Finding the right funk and soul band is easier when you can see every option in one place. This page covers all of the South East, from Winchester, Brighton, Henley-on-Thames, Woking, Westminster and Maidstone, and every act listed travels to venues across the region for wedding receptions, corporate parties and big birthdays.

Our listings for the South East take in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent, London, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex. Each of those areas has its own page too, which you'll find in the links further down, but the acts here will travel to any of them.

Popular venues across the region include The Elvetham, Pelham House, Ardington House, Hampton Court House, Grand Connaught Rooms and One Warwick Park. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we can usually say which acts have played there before.

Across the South East you can choose from Motown, disco, funk and classic soul line-ups, many with brass. Most will take a few requests ahead of the day, and many can learn a special song if you ask.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched acts with clients right across the country. The funk and soul bands here all cover the South East and include PA, lighting and travel in the price. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: £1,000 to £3,500, depending on line-up, date and how long the act plays
  • Always included: PA, lighting and travel, in every quote
  • Acts travel to venues right across the South East
  • Summer Saturdays and December dates book up first
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Most acts perform two or three sets, with playlist music or a break in between. Share your running order when you enquire, including any special moments, and we'll build the quote around it.

Expect to pay from around £1,000 up to £3,500 or more for a larger line-up. The act, the date and your set times make the biggest difference. Every quote includes PA, lighting and travel, so nothing is added later.

Every act's page has video and audio of the performers who would actually play at your wedding or event, a full song list and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to judge the style before you commit.

Use the instant quote button on this page to see prices and availability for your date. Once you've chosen an act, we handle the contract, the deposit and the arrangements, and stay in touch through to the day. Every booking includes a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and an emergency contact line is available on the day if anything needs sorting quickly.

FAQs

The songs cross generations. Motown, disco and soul classics are recognised by almost every guest, so a funk and soul band gets people of all ages onto the dance floor — which is why it's one of the most popular choices for weddings and company parties.

Expect Motown and Stax classics, seventies funk and disco from acts like Chic, Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire, and soul-pop hits right up to the present day. Each band's page lists its full repertoire, and most will learn a first-dance or special request with enough notice.

If the room and budget allow, yes — saxophone and trumpet are what give funk and soul its punch. For smaller venues, a four or five-piece with strong vocals still delivers the songs well, and some bands can add horns just for the main sets.

Yes. Bands bring their own PA, lighting and usually a DJ playlist for between sets. They'll need floor space for the line-up and power sockets nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue in the South East, along with any sound limiter.

From around £1,000 for a smaller line-up to £3,500 or more for a large band with horns. The number of musicians and the date make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two 60-minute or three 40-minute sets during the evening, with a playlist between sets and after the band finishes. Many also offer an extra acoustic set or a later finish if you need it.

“We booked Sound System for our daughter's 18th birthday at the Royal Automobile Club and were absolutely delighted. They are a small band who play a great range of music and were very accommodating to our specific requirements. The band worked closely with banqueting at Woodcote Park throughout, leaving me free to enjoy the evening. I would thoroughly recommend them to other organisers of events for all ages.”

“We have used Havana for two university events and they did a fantastic job each time! Our guests loved their performance and got out of their seats to dance. We would highly recommend using this band and we will certainly be asking them to perform again. They are also really easy to work with and very reliable. They turn up on time and just get on with it and deliver great music!”

““Despite the adverse weather conditions (snow and ice) The Royal Valentines turned up promptly, set up efficiently and gave a fabulous high quality performance with great music We really enjoyed the evening and dancing. The audience was mixed ages from 20 to 70+ but everyone knew the songs and were very happy with the selection and the performance The musicians were of a very high standard and it was great to have live music”

“We had 44th Street for my husband's 40th Birthday last weekend after having booked them for my own 40th back in September. They were absolutely amazing both times - the guests loved them judging by the continuously packed dance floor and the fact many asked about how we found them. They created the very best atmosphere and made it a memorable and special night!”

(5)

“The Tommy Guns blew everyone away! They just kept smashing out banger after banger - no one left the dance floor the whole night! They also did a great job of mixing it up for a spread of generations - starting with more classic rock stuff then transitioning to more contemporary as the night went on.
Would highly highly recommend them to anyone!”

“I have put on quite a few events of this kind with different acts and may I say that you demonstrated exemplary standards of management and performance when working together on this occasion. This consistency and reliability has made my job of putting on the show a whole lot easier. As well as the fantastic show , you were all highly presentable and courteous and you were able to accommodate my requests efficiently.”
