World Music Bands in the North East

World music acts covering the whole of the North East

Whether you're planning a wedding or event in a city-centre hotel or a country house miles from anywhere, world music acts in the North East cover the whole region. This page brings together acts that play everywhere from Gateshead, Middlesbrough, Darlington and Alnwick, so you can compare them side by side.

Our listings for the North East take in Durham, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland. Each of those areas has its own page too, which you'll find in the links further down, but the acts here will travel to any of them.

Popular venues across the region include Matfen Hall, Hardwick Hall, South Causey Inn, Slaley Hall Hotel, Close House and Solberge Hall. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we can usually say which acts have played there before.

The category covers ceilidh, Greek, oompah, steel, Bollywood and other world music acts. Their pages show exactly what each one plays, so you can match the act to your guests and your venue.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched acts with clients right across the country. The world music acts here all cover the North East and include PA, lighting and travel in the price. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: £600 to £2,500, depending on line-up, date and how long the act plays
  • Always included: PA, lighting and travel, in every quote
  • Acts travel to venues right across the North East
  • Summer Saturdays and December dates book up first
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

The North East is a large area, so it's worth mentioning your venue's exact location when you enquire. Acts based nearby often have more availability and more experience of local venues, and we'll point you towards them.

Expect to pay from around £600 up to £2,500 or more for a larger line-up. The act, the date and your set times make the biggest difference. Every quote includes PA, lighting and travel, so nothing is added later.

Every act's page has video and audio of the performers who would actually play at your wedding or event, a full song list and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to judge the style before you commit.

Use the instant quote button on this page to see prices and availability for your date. Once you've chosen an act, we handle the contract, the deposit and the arrangements, and stay in touch through to the day. Every booking includes a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and an emergency contact line is available on the day if anything needs sorting quickly.

FAQs

It covers themed and cultural acts rather than a standard covers band: Bavarian oompah bands for Oktoberfest, ceilidh and folk bands, pipers, Latin and salsa groups, klezmer and Jewish celebration bands, and country acts. Each act's page shows its style and repertoire.

Yes. Ceilidh bands come with a caller who explains and walks guests through each dance before the music starts, so nobody needs to know the steps in advance. It's one of the best ways to get a whole room joining in.

Many can. Oompah bands, pipers and smaller Latin or folk line-ups often play acoustically while moving among guests, which works well for drinks receptions, fun days and festivals. Check the act's page or ask us when you enquire.

Most do. Stage and ceilidh bands bring their own PA; acoustic and roaming acts may need nothing at all. Larger line-ups need floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue, along with any sound limiter.

From around £600 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

For Oktoberfest (September and October), Burns Night, St Patrick's Day and December, book as early as you can — these are the busiest dates for themed acts. For other dates, a few months' notice is usually plenty.

“Congratulations on an amazing show. You really know how to put spectacular fizz into thousands of people. The musical arrangements are superb, the timing and presentation is a joy to behold and the energetic insanity of the front man is jaw dropping and wonderful fun. Brilliant.”

“We just wanted to say a massive thank you for Saturday!! You guys were absolutely awesome, all of our guests absolutely loved it and had an amazing time!! Lots of the guys down from Scotland were saying that was the best ceilidh band they have seen and everyone since has been telling us how much of a great time they had and how well called it was - even had a few requests for your details from guests!!
Thank you so much”

“What can I say about the Insane Pipes? Quite simply they brought a huge smile to everyone's face with their performance on the Main Stage at this years Wessex Folk Festival was one of the highlights of the festival. Of course you can hear them from a long distance away, but that would not do justice to what are a great band of musicians. Their performance was one of the highlights of the festival and they had the crowd on their feet wanting more from their very first number to the last. This was a real treat by a tight unit who know how to play their instruments and work an audience. If you get the chance go see the band as it is well worth it ‬”

“The guys were very adaptable about playing outside (covered but cool courtyard despite the heaters) and kindly played on for a short time after the agreed hour to allow guests to go into dinner.
We hope they enjoyed their cigars.”
