Roaming Bands in Cumbria

Hire a roaming band for your wedding or event in Cumbria

If you want live music that feels part of the day rather than a performance in the corner, a roaming band is the answer. In Cumbria, our roaming acts are booked for weddings, garden parties, product launches and Christmas events, moving among guests, playing close to small groups and taking requests as they go.

Popular event venues in Cumbria include Holker Hall, Broadoaks Country House and Eden Barn, and our roaming bands play weddings and events across Kendal, Penrith and Carlisle. Tell us your venue and where guests will gather when you enquire and we'll suggest acts that suit.

Roaming bands come in many styles. Some play acoustic versions of pop and chart hits, some play vintage swing and jazz, and others bring brass, folk or a New Orleans street-band feel. Watching a couple of videos is the quickest way to find the one that fits your day.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every roaming act here travels to Cumbria as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • The band moves around the room, playing to small groups of guests at a time
  • No stage and usually no power needed
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Start with the space and the guest numbers. A duo suits a drinks reception of up to about 80 guests, a trio or four-piece suits a larger lawn or several rooms, and a brass band suits a big outdoor event or a grand entrance.

Expect to pay from around £800 for a smaller act up to £2,500 or more for a larger band. Line-up size matters most, then the date and extras such as an extra set during the meal. Every quote includes travel, so nothing is added later.

Each roaming act's page carries real video, audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. A couple of clips will tell you far more about how a band works a room than any description can.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

A roaming band plays acoustically while moving around the room or garden, stopping to play to small groups of guests at a time rather than performing from a stage. They're ideal for wedding drinks receptions, garden parties and corporate events where guests are mingling.

Usually not. Most roaming acts play fully acoustic, so they need no stage, PA or power. If they also play a static set with amplification, they'll let you know what they need.

Yes, and many bookings are outdoors. It's worth agreeing a covered spot with the venue in case of rain, and roaming acts can move inside quickly if the weather changes.

From around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two or three sets of 30 to 45 minutes, which covers a typical wedding drinks reception. Longer bookings, or a mix of roaming and static sets, can be arranged when you enquire.

Yes. Many couples book a roaming act for the drinks reception and a separate band or DJ for the evening. We can quote for both together.

“We based the date if our wedding on the availability of Tommy and Sons, and we are so glad we did. The band were phenomenal! Everyone danced the night away from the very first song. The guys were so friendly and professional and such a pleasure to have as part of our wedding. We have received so many compliments on just how good, how polished the band were. It absolutely made our day... You guys totally rocked Stourhead, Wiltshire!”

“Just a quick one to say thanks so much to you and Helen!!! I didn’t get to see you when you finished as the evening guests had started arriving I think! I was worried I’d end up missing lots of things I wanted to do but I’m so thrilled I saw loads of your songs. We had SO many people coming up to us saying how brilliant you were - honestly you were fab! So talented. We’re so glad we booked you!!! Xx”
