Jazz Bands in Cumbria

Live jazz for events in Cumbria

Live jazz changes the feel of a room without taking it over. In Cumbria, jazz bands are booked for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere the music needs to sound polished and relaxed, with the option to lift the tempo once the evening gets going.

Cumbria has a wide choice of places to hold an event, from Hidden River Barn and Eden Barn to Loweswater Village Hall. Our jazz acts travel to towns across the county, including Kendal, Windermere and Carlisle, so the location of your venue won't limit your choice of band.

Within jazz there's a real choice of style: classic standards and crooner material, swinging trad, gypsy jazz, bossa nova, or contemporary jazz versions of songs your guests will recognise. Most acts show their style clearly in their videos, so a few minutes of listening goes a long way.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched live musicians with events of every size. The jazz acts listed here all travel to Cumbria, include their travel in the price, and arrive with their own sound set-up where the room needs it. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in a few seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up and date
  • Line-ups from solo pianist or duo through to a five or six-piece jazz band
  • Background sets for receptions and dinners, or livelier swing for dancing
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

A duo or trio — often piano or guitar with double bass and vocals — suits a drinks reception or a dinner where people want to talk. A quartet or quintet adds drums and a horn such as saxophone or trumpet, giving a fuller sound for a larger room. If you want dancing later, choose an act that lists a swing or party set as well as a background set.

Most jazz bookings fall between about £500 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by how long they play and the date — a Saturday in summer or December costs more than a weekday. Travel is included in the quote you receive, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Every act's page has video and audio of the musicians who would actually play, along with their repertoire and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to check the style and the sound before you commit.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

Jazz works particularly well for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere you want live music that adds atmosphere without stopping conversation. Many acts can also play a livelier swing set later for dancing.

Yes. Most jazz acts are used to playing at a volume that lets guests talk comfortably, especially duos and trios. Tell the band the room and the purpose of each set, and they'll pitch the volume and repertoire to suit.

A trio is usually piano or guitar, double bass and vocals or a lead instrument — ideal for receptions and dinners. A quartet or quintet adds drums and often saxophone or trumpet for a fuller sound, and a larger band gives you the energy for a dance floor.

A duo or trio needs very little: a small corner of the room and, in some cases, a single power socket. Larger bands with drums and amplification need more floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking with your venue in Cumbria before booking.

From around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The line-up, how long they play and the date make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Yes. Each act lists its repertoire, and most are happy to learn a special request with enough notice. If you have a style in mind — standards, gypsy jazz, bossa nova or swing — choose an act that specialises in it.

“Bravo to Marcus who played at our recent Cocktail Party in Edinburgh. He arrived before we did, set up without fuss and played a selection of his repertoire throughout the course of the evening - fantastic. Our guests loved him and he was gracious enough to play a specific song that one of our guests wanted to sing for us. I would highly recommend him and Hireaband - a great service. Thanks again for making our night special.”

“On behalf of Crawley United Reformed Church I would like to thank the band for performing at our Bacon Buttie Brunch. They have a brilliant talent, with Livi having a unique voice and their eclectic range of songs entertained a wide range of ages in the audience. We will happily ask them to play for us again and are delighted that the group will be using the church premises to rehearse.”

“What a fantastic band! We booked Swing Time for a Charity Gala Ball, and what a wonderful addition to the event they were. All our guests made for the dance floor and were thoroughly entertained and I can't recommend them highly enough. Delightful people and they certainly add value to your event!”

“It was a great pleasure to have The Melody Jazz Trio perform at our party. The band created a classy party atmosphere with their energetic swing music and laid back ballads. I would thoroughly recommend them and we will certainly be getting them back next year!”

“The Mojitos were the headline performers at Spires’ 25th Anniversary Fundraiser and they absolutely blew us away. They were such a great bunch of performers and really topped off the night for us. They were also very flexible and accommodating, and always quick to respond to any questions we had.”

“We book Fascinating Rhythm regularly at Brasserie Zedel to provide background jazz for our
diners. We also have them playing as the main event at our late night shows at The Crazy Coqs.
The band are a pleasure to work with and always go down a storm with our guests!”
