Jazz Bands in Liverpool

Jazz bands and musicians in Liverpool

A jazz band suits the parts of an event where people are talking as much as listening. Across Liverpool, that means drinks after a wedding ceremony, a long dinner, a client reception or a summer party on the lawn, with standards, swing and bossa nova played at a level that lets conversation carry on underneath.

Popular event venues in Liverpool include Blackstock Market, Sefton Palm House and The Florrie, and our jazz acts travel to events across the Wirral, Formby and the Albert Dock. Wherever your event is, tell us the venue when you enquire and we'll help you choose a line-up that suits the space.

Not every jazz band sounds the same. You'll find smooth lounge trios, gypsy jazz groups in the Django Reinhardt tradition, trad and New Orleans bands, Latin and bossa nova specialists, and acts who give chart songs a jazz treatment. It's worth deciding which mood you're after before comparing prices.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched live musicians with events of every size. The jazz acts listed here all travel to Liverpool, include their travel in the price, and arrive with their own sound set-up where the room needs it. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in a few seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up and date
  • Line-ups from solo pianist or duo through to a five or six-piece jazz band
  • Background sets for receptions and dinners, or livelier swing for dancing
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

For a reception or dinner, a duo or trio is usually enough: it fills the room with sound without making conversation hard. Larger rooms, or events where people will dance, suit a quartet or bigger, with drums and a saxophone or trumpet adding energy. Many acts can start small and add musicians for the later set.

Most jazz bookings fall between about £500 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by how long they play and the date — a Saturday in summer or December costs more than a weekday. Travel is included in the quote you receive, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Each jazz act's page carries real video and audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. Watching a couple of clips tells you far more about the feel of a band than any description can, so it's worth listening before you choose.

Enter your date and venue in the instant quote button for live pricing and availability. After you book, we look after the contract, deposit and details, and keep in touch right up to the event. You also get a 14-day change-of-mind refund and an emergency contact number to use on the day.

FAQs

Jazz works particularly well for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere you want live music that adds atmosphere without stopping conversation. Many acts can also play a livelier swing set later for dancing.

Yes. Most jazz acts are used to playing at a volume that lets guests talk comfortably, especially duos and trios. Tell the band the room and the purpose of each set, and they'll pitch the volume and repertoire to suit.

A trio is usually piano or guitar, double bass and vocals or a lead instrument — ideal for receptions and dinners. A quartet or quintet adds drums and often saxophone or trumpet for a fuller sound, and a larger band gives you the energy for a dance floor.

A duo or trio needs very little: a small corner of the room and, in some cases, a single power socket. Larger bands with drums and amplification need more floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking with your venue in Liverpool before booking.

From around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The line-up, how long they play and the date make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Yes. Each act lists its repertoire, and most are happy to learn a special request with enough notice. If you have a style in mind — standards, gypsy jazz, bossa nova or swing — choose an act that specialises in it.

“Incredible band, incredible show, incredible evening. Our daughter's 21st was absolutely perfect and the modern songs you did with a swing twist were amazing. Just The Way You Are was our favourite. Honestly thank you so much for an unforgettable evening. Would recommend you to all our friends!”

“The nojitos surpassed all our expectations from start to finish. The clips on Youtube do not do them justice, they managed to perform modern songs in a classic way, like watching Count Basie perform Taylor Swift! Not only will we be booking them again, we'll be passing their details to everyone we know that wants a top quality music set. The whole crowd loved every minute. Absolutely perfect”

“For my 40th birthday last November, I wanted to re-create some swing style magic for myself and my friends. And with Gentlemen of the Road that's exactly what I got. The set list was awesome, and you can tell the band love what they do as the sound they produced was wonderful. I can't recommend them highly enough. Two long sets just wasn't enough! Thanks guys, we had an incredible evening.”

“We booked this band for a charity event. From first contact they were very positive and understanding of the type of evening we wanted, and they delivered exactly as promised. They play a lovely mix of music and are obviously very talented musicians. They offer a sophisticated repertoire of swing era music and we would highly recommend them for this type of occasion. They are also a very nice group of people.”

“Thanks again guys! We weren’t sure at first whether to hire a band but we were so pleased with our decision. You really helped create the atmosphere we were looking for. We’d definitely look to book you again in future”

“Dear Mike, I know I thanked you on the night but just wanted to do so again in the cold light of day. You and your band were fantastic, not just brilliant at the music but also lovely, helpful and a total pleasure to work with.
Thank you so much and please pass my thanks on to your team.
My Mother literally had the party of her life and you were a big part of that.... you were exceptional.”
