Irish Bands in the North East

Find Irish bands for your wedding or event in the North East

Whether you're planning a wedding or event in a city-centre hotel or a country house miles from anywhere, Irish bands in the North East cover the whole region. This page brings together acts that play everywhere from Hexham, Durham, Stockton-on-Tees and Jesmond, so you can compare them side by side.

This region page covers Durham, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland. If you already know which area your venue is in, the links below take you to the page for that area, with venues and acts picked for it.

Popular venues across the region include Newton Hall, Dalton Old Pump House, Acklam Hall, Northside Farm, Healey Barn and Beamish Hall Hotel. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we can usually say which acts have played there before.

The category covers traditional trad and céilí bands, Irish party bands and Irish singers. Their pages show exactly what each one plays, so you can match the act to your guests and your venue.

We've been booking Irish bands since 1999, and every act on this page travels across the North East. PA, lighting and travel are built into the quote, and you can check your date and price straight away with the instant quote button.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: £600 to £2,500, depending on line-up, date and how long the act plays
  • Always included: PA, lighting and travel, in every quote
  • Acts travel to venues right across the North East
  • Summer Saturdays and December dates book up first
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Start with the space and the guest numbers. A smaller line-up suits an intimate room or a venue with a sound limiter, while a larger act fills a ballroom or marquee. Tell us the venue and numbers and we'll suggest what tends to work.

Smaller line-ups typically start from around £600, while bigger acts can reach £2,500 or more. Summer Saturdays and December are the busiest dates. The price in your quote includes PA, lighting and travel, so it won't change once you've booked.

Each act's page carries real video, audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. A couple of clips will tell you far more about how an act works a room than any description can.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

The category covers traditional trad groups, céilí bands with a caller, Irish folk and ballad singers, and Celtic rock and Irish party bands that also play modern covers. Each act's page shows its style, line-up and song list.

Yes. Céilí bands come with a caller who explains each dance and walks guests through the steps, so nobody needs to know them in advance. It's one of the best ways to get a whole room dancing together.

Most do. Full bands bring their own PA and lighting; acoustic duos and trios need very little. Larger line-ups need floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue, along with any sound limiter.

From around £600 for a solo singer or duo to £2,500 or more for a full band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most acts are happy to learn a special request with enough notice, whether that's a traditional air for the ceremony, a ballad for the first dance or a family favourite. Mention it when you enquire.

As early as you can. St Patrick's weekend is the busiest time of year for Irish acts, and the best bands are often booked months ahead. For other dates, a few months' notice is usually plenty.

“Hickory Smoke were amazing and fantastic value for money. They really read the vibe of the room, switching between traditional ceilidh songs and more well-known covers, including songs that we had requested. Our guests were definitely not the best at following dance routines (especially after a few drinks)...but they handled it like pros! It was great entertainment - unique, inclusive, and our guests loved it. Thank you!!”

“The Flying Finns music was irresistibly danceable. Their energetic and extremely skilled performance created a highly festive air. Their interpretations of folk music were as original as it was entertaining. I would not hesitate in recommending this hugely professional band”

“Dear Padraig Words cannot express how wonderful you were, at the celebration we had for my mum's passing, at Greenwoods recently. So many relatives asked whether you actually knew mum, as you had made it so personal, they were, as you could probably tell, really enjoying themselves! I could not have wished for a more fitting tribute to my mum, just sad that you couldn't meet her as she would have been your biggest fan that night! With sincere thanks.”

“The band were amazing, really talented and great at getting people up to dance and keeping them going throughout the night. They were able to accommodate our request for a Hora, learned our first dance song and were just the best!”

“Excellent communication from Del and the team. Declan was brilliant. Very professional musician with a lovely voice. Played a great variation of songs to suit all age groups of the party. Excellent value for money. Stairway to Heaven was incredible! Will book again in the future and highly recommend Declan and the company to everyone.”

“The Scene did an amazing job. We go to see a lot of live music, but The Scene really stood out for us, they were the perfect choice for our wedding.”
