Irish Bands in Newcastle upon Tyne

Irish music for weddings and parties in Newcastle upon Tyne

Few acts get a room joining in like an Irish band. Across Newcastle upon Tyne, these bands play traditional jigs and reels, Irish ballads, céilí dances and rousing folk-rock covers, and they're a favourite for weddings, family parties and St Patrick's celebrations.

Whether your event is near the Quayside, Tynemouth and Gosforth or elsewhere in Newcastle upon Tyne, the acts on this page cover the whole area. Local venues include The Biscuit Factory, The Vermont Hotel and Wylam Brewery. If you're planning a céilí, it's worth checking the size of the dance floor with the venue early on.

Irish music covers a lot of ground. Some acts are traditional trad groups playing jigs, reels and slow airs, some are céilí bands with a caller who teaches every dance, and others mix Irish folk with pop and rock covers for a party set. Watching a couple of videos is the quickest way to find the right fit.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every Irish act here travels to Newcastle upon Tyne as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £600 for a solo singer or duo to £2,500 or more for a full band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • Traditional trad, céilí, Irish folk, ballads and Celtic rock
  • Sets for a drinks reception, a céilí evening or a full party night
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

A solo singer or duo suits a pub-style night or a small gathering. For a wedding or a big party, a four or five-piece band with fiddle and banjo fills the room properly. Tell us the venue and guest numbers and we'll suggest what tends to work.

A duo or trio typically starts from around £600, while a full Irish party or céilí band for the evening can reach £2,500 or more. The date and your set times make a difference too. The price in your quote includes travel, so it won't change once you've booked.

Each Irish act's page carries real video, audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. A couple of clips will tell you far more about how a band works a room than any description can.

Use the instant quote button on this page to see prices and availability for your date. Once you've chosen an act, we handle the contract, the deposit and the arrangements, and stay in touch through to the day. Every booking includes a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and an emergency contact line is available on the day if anything needs sorting quickly.

FAQs

The category covers traditional trad groups, céilí bands with a caller, Irish folk and ballad singers, and Celtic rock and Irish party bands that also play modern covers. Each act's page shows its style, line-up and song list.

Yes. Céilí bands come with a caller who explains each dance and walks guests through the steps, so nobody needs to know them in advance. It's one of the best ways to get a whole room dancing together.

Most do. Full bands bring their own PA and lighting; acoustic duos and trios need very little. Larger line-ups need floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking both with your venue, along with any sound limiter.

From around £600 for a solo singer or duo to £2,500 or more for a full band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most acts are happy to learn a special request with enough notice, whether that's a traditional air for the ceremony, a ballad for the first dance or a family favourite. Mention it when you enquire.

As early as you can. St Patrick's weekend is the busiest time of year for Irish acts, and the best bands are often booked months ahead. For other dates, a few months' notice is usually plenty.

“We can not recommend these guys enough! We had them play at our wedding and everybody loved them. Not only was the music great but they also got everyone involved and having an awesome time. Organising what we wanted was also a breeze as they are a great bunch of guys and very approachable. Thank you again!”

“I booked The Flying Finns to play for my wedding and I was astonished by their ability to play almost any genre of music. They have a really lively act and are very down-to-earth, polite and professional to work with. It was clear that they really love playing music and their energy and enthusiasm infused the whole evening. The wedding reception was running late with the speeches and food, so The Flying Finns wandered around the tables playing violin and guitar acoustically before they played their evening set….It was magical. If I ever get married again, The Flying Finns will be my band of choice!!”

“I just wanted to drop you guys an email to say thank you all so much for helping to make our wedding absolutely amazing! We’d already had a fantastic day and I didn’t think it could get any better but it did! So many people have said you guys are the best band they’ve ever seen at a wedding and me & my husband completely agree. We had so much fun at our reception as did all our guests. Having a full dance-floor night was the best!!”
