Roaming Bands in West Sussex

Roaming wedding bands for drinks receptions in West Sussex

When guests are spread across a lawn, a terrace or several rooms, a roaming band keeps the atmosphere going everywhere at once. The band moves from group to group, playing a song or two for each before moving on. Across West Sussex, these acts are a favourite for weddings and summer events, playing acoustic pop, swing, jazz, folk and brass.

West Sussex has a wide choice of wedding and event venues, from Upwaltham Barns and Cissbury Barns to Two Woods Estate. Our roaming acts travel right across the area, including Petworth, Chichester and Crawley, and can move between spaces as your guests do.

Within this category you'll find acoustic duos and trios, roaming swing and jazz groups, walkabout brass bands and acoustic pop acts. Many also offer a static set later in the day, and their song lists show exactly what they cover.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every roaming act here travels to West Sussex as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • The band moves around the room, playing to small groups of guests at a time
  • No stage and usually no power needed
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Roaming bands are often booked for outdoor receptions, so agree a covered alternative with your venue. Acoustic acts can move inside in minutes, and most are happy to play in a marquee, a conservatory or a covered terrace.

Expect to pay from around £800 for a smaller act up to £2,500 or more for a larger band. Line-up size matters most, then the date and extras such as an extra set during the meal. Every quote includes travel, so nothing is added later.

Each roaming act's page carries real video, audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. A couple of clips will tell you far more about how a band works a room than any description can.

Use the instant quote button on this page to see prices and availability for your date. Once you've chosen an act, we handle the contract, the deposit and the arrangements, and stay in touch through to the day. Every booking includes a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and an emergency contact line is available on the day if anything needs sorting quickly.

FAQs

A roaming band plays acoustically while moving around the room or garden, stopping to play to small groups of guests at a time rather than performing from a stage. They're ideal for wedding drinks receptions, garden parties and corporate events where guests are mingling.

Usually not. Most roaming acts play fully acoustic, so they need no stage, PA or power. If they also play a static set with amplification, they'll let you know what they need.

Yes, and many bookings are outdoors. It's worth agreeing a covered spot with the venue in case of rain, and roaming acts can move inside quickly if the weather changes.

From around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two or three sets of 30 to 45 minutes, which covers a typical wedding drinks reception. Longer bookings, or a mix of roaming and static sets, can be arranged when you enquire.

Yes. Many couples book a roaming act for the drinks reception and a separate band or DJ for the evening. We can quote for both together.

“Tommy and Sons performed an acoustic set at our drinks reception and performed as a 4 piece band in the evening. We could not have asked for a better band. They were incredible and everyone loved them. We could not thank them enough. They played our first dance song exceptionally well and they threw in a couple of Radiohead songs at the grooms request which we greatly appreciated. Thank you guys so much. We have already had people asking about you!”

“We just wanted to thank you SO much for how amazing you were at our wedding reception on 5th May. I can’t even put into words how fantastic the day was and how your music and whole “vibe” helped shape it. It was just perfect and was more amazing than we could have ever hoped for! Everybody was just on the dance floor all night; I know I for one couldn’t get off the dance floor!!! Every time we talk about the wedding our guests ALWAYS mentions how amazing you were so I just wanted to thank you so much. As well as being extremely talented you were absolutely lovely as well.”

“Hey guys! You recently performed at mine and Leanne’s wedding, and us and our guests could not have loved you more! Thank you again so so much!”

“We hired Tommy & Sons to perform at our wedding reception. Wow, Wow, Wow - utterly incredible. The energy and talent, and joy was overflowing, and we are still talking about them two months later - as are our friends and family! Thank you so much to all of you for making our evening completely magical. And also, thank you for learning our first dance song and playing it so very beautifully.”

“Thank you so much for Saturday! Everyone had an amazing time and loved you guys! Our roaming band The Roaming Romantics were AMAZING! They really started the night off how it meant to go on! As our venue was quite small we chose a band that could move around and really get involved. Singing and dancing non stop! We had our first dance to ‘Anyone’ by Justin Bieber but a beautiful acoustic version. Everyone in the room sang along unplanned which was so special.”

“Tommy and Sons were fantastic and worth every penny! They got everyone up and dancing along and kept the energy going all evening, all the guests had such great things to say about them and continue to mention how good they were, would highly recommend! One of our guests has since booked them for their own wedding!”
