Jazz Bands in Shropshire

Live jazz for events in Shropshire

Live jazz changes the feel of a room without taking it over. In Shropshire, jazz bands are booked for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere the music needs to sound polished and relaxed, with the option to lift the tempo once the evening gets going.

Shropshire has a wide choice of places to hold an event, from Park House Hotel - Shifnal and Wistanstow Village Hall to Davenport House. Our jazz acts travel to towns across the county, including Shrewsbury, Telford and Bridgnorth, so the location of your venue won't limit your choice of band.

Not every jazz band sounds the same. You'll find smooth lounge trios, gypsy jazz groups in the Django Reinhardt tradition, trad and New Orleans bands, Latin and bossa nova specialists, and acts who give chart songs a jazz treatment. It's worth deciding which mood you're after before comparing prices.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched live musicians with events of every size. The jazz acts listed here all travel to Shropshire, include their travel in the price, and arrive with their own sound set-up where the room needs it. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in a few seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up and date
  • Line-ups from solo pianist or duo through to a five or six-piece jazz band
  • Background sets for receptions and dinners, or livelier swing for dancing
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

For a reception or dinner, a duo or trio is usually enough: it fills the room with sound without making conversation hard. Larger rooms, or events where people will dance, suit a quartet or bigger, with drums and a saxophone or trumpet adding energy. Many acts can start small and add musicians for the later set.

Most jazz bookings fall between about £500 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by how long they play and the date — a Saturday in summer or December costs more than a weekday. Travel is included in the quote you receive, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Rather than a generic demo, every act's page shows the actual line-up you'd be booking, with videos, audio, a song list and client reviews. Between them you can get a clear sense of the sound and the style well before the day.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

Jazz works particularly well for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere you want live music that adds atmosphere without stopping conversation. Many acts can also play a livelier swing set later for dancing.

Yes. Most jazz acts are used to playing at a volume that lets guests talk comfortably, especially duos and trios. Tell the band the room and the purpose of each set, and they'll pitch the volume and repertoire to suit.

A trio is usually piano or guitar, double bass and vocals or a lead instrument — ideal for receptions and dinners. A quartet or quintet adds drums and often saxophone or trumpet for a fuller sound, and a larger band gives you the energy for a dance floor.

A duo or trio needs very little: a small corner of the room and, in some cases, a single power socket. Larger bands with drums and amplification need more floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking with your venue in Shropshire before booking.

From around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The line-up, how long they play and the date make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Yes. Each act lists its repertoire, and most are happy to learn a special request with enough notice. If you have a style in mind — standards, gypsy jazz, bossa nova or swing — choose an act that specialises in it.

“Thank you so much for joining us at Ellenor’s Midsummer Night’s Ball on Saturday 9 June in the grounds of St Clere, Sevenoaks. Harlem Shuffle performance was fantastic, it was great seeing so many guests getting up and dancing the night away. We have had so much wonderful feedback from both our guests and staff about your performance, so thank you for your hard work!”

“Before the event Dave did everything possible to work with us and make sure that it all went without a hitch, which was much appreciated. He and the rest of his group were friendly and professional throughout, and our guests loved seeing the joy they so clearly get from what they do. We hadn’t tried jazz at our hotel before, but it went down really well and we received lots of great feedback.”

“Gentlemen of the Road provided an excellent performance at our Annual Dinner. We have a mixed group of professionals attending but the band appealed to all there. The preparation in advance was very smooth from our perspective and having used Pete's service before, I could depend on their reliability on the night.”

“Joe is a top class, dynamic musician both solo and in his various band projects. His stage presence and confidence makes him a very popular musician and a great booking all kinds of venues. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for high quality live music. Thanks for your hard work at Thirteen (Guildford) and all the best going forward!”

“I booked the Lazy River Band for a little do I put on earlier this year, they were very professional to deal with, covering all bases.
On the day they were punctual, smart and the music was absolutely perfect to create a classy atmosphere at my party.
Would 100% recommend them to others.”

“All our dealings with Manhattan, from initially visiting their very user friendly website, through the booking process, and then arranging details for the event, was straight-forward and efficient. Harrison was most helpful and the band themselves were excellent! They were flexible and willing to fit in with what we wanted, prepared well and their performance was fantastic. I have received lots of positive feedback from those at the event and will certainly not hesitate to recommend Manhattan in the future.”
