Overview
Vipers Swing is comprised of some of the best players on the UK Jazz and Swing scene. They have toured Europe, America and extensively across the UK specialising in early jazz and blues.
The band have a unique offering of rich vocal harmony, original arrangements and repertoire drawing from: Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong as well as lesser known hidden gems.
The band are a collective comprising of a trio up to a big band and at its core consists of: Rachel Lawrence (vocals/washboard/accordion), Bill Frampton (double bass/harmonica) and Gus Dolding (tenor banjo/clarinet/guitar). All three players are able to play at least two instruments meaning their sound is diverse and varied throughout a typical set.
They are joined by various dynamic soloists they have met on their travels and feature a mix of; trumpet, trombone, reeds, violin in the tradition of a typical New Orleans jazz band.
The band met in Bristol and have played together in various projects such as Henry’s Hot Six, The Gin Bowlers, The Kitchen Syncopaters and Around About Dusk. They have played with this and their sister projects in Ferrara Buskers Festival, Glastonbury Festival, New Orleans and European venues and swing dances and events.
The band have extensively toured and are happy to play for dancers, parties, festivals, weddings and more.

The BHV (group of 4 musicians) played at a 50th birthday party held outside on a pub terrace. They were excellent and pitched the songs perfectly for the location and ambience of the event.
There was great communication beforehand, and on the night they took care of everything, knowing we would be busy with guests - they both set up with no fuss and packed up quickly and unobtrusively at the end of the evening.
Guests commented on how good they were, including one friend who is a saxophonist himself and plays in a band!
I would definitely recommend them.
Foot stomping, bum wiggling, jazzy goodness! Love this band, great energy, amazing musicians! They created an atmosphere of fun and frolics that made for an excellent night of dancing and good times, can't recommend them strongly enough, felt like travelling back to the roaring 20's!

Sooo good! We hired the talented Vipers Jazz Band for a wedding at the Ethicurean restaurant just outside Bristol in October 2017. They created a perfect atmosphere for the wedding and were very pleasant to work with. Highly recommend!
