The Mansion has one of the best addresses in Leeds: it stands in the middle of Roundhay Park, 700 acres of lakes, woodland, formal gardens and bandstands, and yet it is only about 15 minutes from the city centre. Ceremonies take place in the Colonnades Room, where floor-to-ceiling windows open onto the terrace and a grand double staircase leads you down to it; up to 220 can be seated there. Dinner and the evening move upstairs to the Mansion Room, which takes 134 around tables and up to 250 once the dancing starts. In between, the terrace and gardens do a great deal of work: drinks in the sun with the park spread out below, and photographs among the trees and the lakes that could have been taken 50 miles from anywhere.
The other thing worth knowing is the flexibility. Rather than fixed packages, the day is priced around what you actually want, with exclusive-use bookings running anywhere from eight to 15 hours, and the kitchen offers Gujarati and Punjabi menus alongside its classic and bespoke ones, so a multi-day or multi-tradition celebration is genuinely at home here rather than merely tolerated.
Where the band plays
The Mansion Room is where the evening lives, and it is a well-proportioned first-floor room with the height to carry a full band comfortably. Its one quirk is the staircase: everything a band brings has to come up it, so a group with a big rig will want to know that in advance, and an early load-in is always the friendlier option. The Colonnades Room and the terrace below suit something lighter during the drinks — an acoustic duo or a jazz trio playing to the park is hard to beat on a summer afternoon.
How the evening runs
A typical day here moves upwards through the house: ceremony on the ground floor, drinks on the terrace, then up the staircase beneath the chandelier for dinner and dancing, which gives the evening a lovely sense of arrival. Because the hire is agreed hour by hour rather than fixed, you have some say over how late the party runs, so decide early whether you want a longer evening and price it in. Confirm the finish time and any noise restrictions when you book — the house sits in a public park, and there are neighbours to think about — and your band can build the sets around it.
