Newton Hall is a quirky, rambling 18th-century house at Newton-by-the-Sea, a few fields back from one of the loveliest stretches of the Northumberland coast and about ten minutes from Alnwick. It sits inside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, an hour north of Newcastle and 90 minutes south of Edinburgh, with the Farne Islands, Alnwick Castle and Holy Island all within easy reach. It is worth walking the space with your band in mind when you visit, since a rambling house means the dancefloor, the bar and the quiet corners all need to sit within earshot of each other.

The Enchanted Chapel is a gift for ceremony music — a harpist, a string quartet or a solo singer all sound lovely under that ornate lighting, and the room is enclosed enough that nothing gets lost. For an outdoor ceremony on Wedding Hill, or anything down on the beach, plan for battery-powered amplification and accept that the North Sea breeze will have opinions. The covered terrace is the natural home for the drinks reception, where an acoustic duo or a jazz trio sets the tone while photographs are taken.
How the evening runs
The house is licensed until midnight, so the shape of the night is easy to plan: dinner and speeches, the first dance, then two solid sets from the band before the last one lands while the room is still full. Because everyone is staying on site, nobody is watching the clock for a taxi, and the party tends to keep its numbers right to the end. There’s on-site parking for load-in, and with a wedding coordinator and toastmaster in place the band’s timings get folded into the running order without any fuss.
