Home Farm is a proper working farm at Braunston, just outside Daventry on the Warwickshire border, and the family who run it have made no attempt to disguise the fact. Weddings take place on a 15-acre site carved out of 250 acres of rolling countryside, with the spire of All Saints’ Braunston — known locally as the Cathedral of the Canals — on the horizon and the farm’s own cattle and sheep somewhere over the hill.
The centrepiece is a marquee that arrived in 2023 and is a good deal smarter than the word suggests: ivory lined and chandeliered, with a starlit ceiling, a peaked roof and big picture windows looking out across the fields. There is a dance floor, a bar and a reception area built in, a separate chill-out tent for when the noise gets too much, and luxury washrooms rather than the usual compromise. The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies indoors and out, and seats 160 for the wedding breakfast with room to grow once the evening guests arrive.
Food is the part they are proudest of. Menus are locally sourced and largely homemade, built around beef and lamb raised on the farm, and they range from traditional roasts and picnics through hog roasts to street food from more or less anywhere in the world. Straw bales and picnic tables keep children happy, a camping field keeps guests on site rather than in taxis, and exclusive use runs from one to three days. The eco credentials are real too — 250 solar panels, rainwater harvesting and a biomass boiler — rather than a line in a brochure.
Where the band plays
A marquee is about the friendliest room a band can ask for: no pillars, no low ceiling, no awkward corner to be shoehorned into, and a dance floor already sitting in the right relationship to the bar. Live music and discos are both welcome here and full power distribution is laid on across the site, which removes the most common headache at an outdoor venue — though it is always worth making sure whoever you book knows exactly what is available and what they need to bring themselves. Load-in across a farm is straightforward enough, but a word about vehicle access in wet weather never goes amiss.
How the evening runs
Because the whole site is exclusively yours, the day can be as unhurried as you like: vows in the open air, a long afternoon on the grass, then everyone drifting under canvas as the light goes. Evenings here tend to run to around midnight, which gives a band two solid sets, and with camping on site there is no queue of cars waiting to break the spell at half past eleven. Agree your finish time in writing early on, since it quietly shapes everything else on the running order.
