De Courceys Manor lies in the rolling country above Pentyrch, close enough to Cardiff that guests can be there in half an hour and far enough that you would never guess it. It is an exclusive-use venue in the fullest sense — one wedding at a time, no other bookings running alongside, no strangers wandering through your photographs — and the whole manor, its gardens and its ceremony spaces belong to you for the day.
The two ceremony settings could hardly be more different from each other. The Floral Room is the indoor option, softly lit and deliberately timeless, while the Secret Garden takes you outside into an enclosed, green, slightly enchanted corner of the grounds with a starlit arbour that photographers make a beeline for. Both are licensed through Cardiff Registry Office. Afterwards, drinks spill out into the gardens, and in good weather very little persuasion is needed to keep everyone there.
There are 14 bedrooms sleeping 36 guests across a luxury apartment and 9 cottages, with a bridal suite, a honeymoon suite and a pamper-and-prep suite for the night before. Breakfast is included for those staying, and is required for peak-season Friday and Saturday weddings. The kitchens are in-house and the menus range widely — Mediterranean, Asian, halal, kosher and vegan among them — which makes a mixed guest list considerably easier to feed well. Dogs are welcome, biodegradable confetti and sparklers are allowed, and there is plenty of parking.
Where the band plays
Exclusive use is the single biggest gift a venue can give live music, because it removes the two things that usually cause friction: other events competing for space, and other guests to keep quiet for. Here the reception rooms are yours from the morning, which means a band can load in, set up and soundcheck properly rather than assembling in a rush between courses. The rooms are country-house scale rather than ballroom scale, so a four-piece or a compact five-piece will suit the space better than a horn-heavy nine — more than enough to fill a floor when everyone you invited is in one room.
How the evening tends to go
A day here has a pleasantly self-contained rhythm. Ceremony, drinks and photographs in the Secret Garden, dinner, then dancing, with the cottages a short walk across the grounds so nobody is watching the clock for a lift home. That matters more than couples expect — a floor that stays full for the second set is almost always a floor where guests are sleeping on site. De Courceys will give you the finish time and any music restrictions for your date, and it is worth asking specifically about outdoor music during drinks as well as the indoor curfew, since rural venues often treat the two separately.
