Crondon Park occupies a fine position above its own valley at Stock, a short run from Ingatestone, and the building everybody comes for is the Baronial Hall — a listed barn of about 1600, one of the best Tudor and Jacobean examples in the county. It is built of light oak, with soaring vaulted ceilings and wrought-iron chandeliers hung the length of it, and the floor underfoot is rosewood rescued from County Hall in London. The guests staying in the bedrooms tend to be the last ones standing.
