Aston Hall dates from 1772 and has the calm symmetry of its era: a handsome Georgian front, lawns running away on both sides, and countryside opening out behind. It stands at Aston, neatly placed between Sheffield and Rotherham and a couple of minutes from the motorway, which makes it one of the easiest venues in South Yorkshire for guests coming from all directions. Indoors there is a room for every size of wedding. The Library, tucked beside reception in the original building, is the choice for something small and warm. The Virage Suite, added in 2018, brings a bright reception space with its own bar and a terrace looking over the countryside. And the Lagonda Suite is the big one, seating up to 250 and able to be partitioned down if your numbers are more modest. Altogether the hotel handles anything from a party of two to a celebration of 300, with Darcy’s Restaurant and Byron’s Lounge Bar keeping everyone fed and watered.
Where the band goes
The Lagonda Suite is the natural home for live music: a large, purpose-built function room with the height and floor space for a full band and a generous dancefloor, and the flexibility to be made smaller if you would rather a tighter room. The Virage Suite works well for a smaller band or a duo, with the bar and terrace giving guests somewhere to go between sets. If you are marrying at the pagoda, an acoustic act on the lawn afterwards is a lovely touch — just make sure there is power out there, or book something that genuinely needs none.
How the evening runs
The usual pattern is an afternoon ceremony indoors or in the garden, drinks on the lawns, dinner in the suite and dancing once the tables are cleared, with bedrooms upstairs so guests can stay to the end without watching for a lift home. Confirm the finish time for amplified music with the events team when you book, ask whether the room you have chosen has a sound limiter, and let your band know which entrance to use for loading in — it will save everyone half an hour on the day.
