Roaming Bands on the Isle of Wight

Hire a roaming band for your wedding or event on the Isle of Wight

When guests are spread across a lawn, a terrace or several rooms, a roaming band keeps the atmosphere going everywhere at once. The band moves from group to group, playing a song or two for each before moving on. Across the Isle of Wight, these acts are a favourite for weddings and summer events, playing acoustic pop, swing, jazz, folk and brass.

Popular event venues on the Isle of Wight include Shepards Wharf Marina – The Sugar Store, Appuldurcombe House and Royal Ocean Racing Club, and our roaming bands play weddings and events across Newport, Ryde and Cowes. Tell us your venue and where guests will gather when you enquire and we'll suggest acts that suit.

Not every roaming act does the same job. A duo can move quietly between tables and small groups, a trio or four-piece fills a large lawn, and a brass band makes a real entrance. Knowing where your guests will be makes the choice much easier.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every roaming act here travels to the Isle of Wight as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • The band moves around the room, playing to small groups of guests at a time
  • No stage and usually no power needed
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Roaming bands are often booked for outdoor receptions, so agree a covered alternative with your venue. Acoustic acts can move inside in minutes, and most are happy to play in a marquee, a conservatory or a covered terrace.

A duo or trio typically starts from around £800, while a four-piece or brass band for a longer reception can reach £2,500 or more. The date and your set times make a difference too. The price in your quote includes travel, so it won't change once you've booked.

Rather than a generic demo, each act's page shows the actual line-up you'd be booking, with videos, audio, a song list and client reviews. Between them you'll get a clear sense of the sound and the show well before the day.

Use the instant quote button on this page to see prices and availability for your date. Once you've chosen an act, we handle the contract, the deposit and the arrangements, and stay in touch through to the day. Every booking includes a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and an emergency contact line is available on the day if anything needs sorting quickly.

FAQs

A roaming band plays acoustically while moving around the room or garden, stopping to play to small groups of guests at a time rather than performing from a stage. They're ideal for wedding drinks receptions, garden parties and corporate events where guests are mingling.

Usually not. Most roaming acts play fully acoustic, so they need no stage, PA or power. If they also play a static set with amplification, they'll let you know what they need.

Yes, and many bookings are outdoors. It's worth agreeing a covered spot with the venue in case of rain, and roaming acts can move inside quickly if the weather changes.

From around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two or three sets of 30 to 45 minutes, which covers a typical wedding drinks reception. Longer bookings, or a mix of roaming and static sets, can be arranged when you enquire.

Yes. Many couples book a roaming act for the drinks reception and a separate band or DJ for the evening. We can quote for both together.

“You and your music was just the magic we needed on Saturday afternoon! Many thanks indeed for giving us such a treat and getting our party started, against that damp and cool background too! The tunes were all terrific and you were both so calm, warm and patient with us all. I hope there'll be another opportunity to hear you play again soon.”

“Thank you so much for playing our wedding on Saturday night! You guys absolutely smashed it and you managed to make every guest, no matter their age or tastes, hit the dance floor. We absolutely loved it and had the best night! Thank you for letting my best man and I perform Angels with you, you were incredibly accommodating and it was a moment I will never forget. Also a big shout out to the sax player who nailed both the sets and really got the party started after dinner! Thanks also for the technical wizardry to set up the best man’s speech. When the official photos come through, we’ll send through any good ones of the band!”

“Thank you so much again for playing at our wedding. Many, many people said to us how brilliant you guys were - you got the vibe just right. Couldn’t have been better.”

“Jono and the band 'rocked', professional, relaxed and friendly. The band adjusted their set times as we were well behind our wedding plan schedule. They learnt our first dance song for us and performed it brilliantly. Thank you guys for making our wedding evening the best!!”

“The band were the highlight of our wedding! They were professional but really good fun! All our guests loved them and they really got the party started. They learned our first dance song which sounded beautiful. I would thoroughly recommend Detroit Vintage Duo.”

“Thanks so much for our night, you guys made such a great evening, the missus is in the process of leaving you a great review, but I was wondering if you have a CD or anything we can purchase to remind us of the brilliant evening we had”
