Roaming Bands in Hertfordshire

Roaming wedding bands for drinks receptions in Hertfordshire

If you want live music that feels part of the day rather than a performance in the corner, a roaming band is the answer. In Hertfordshire, our roaming acts are booked for weddings, garden parties, product launches and Christmas events, moving among guests, playing close to small groups and taking requests as they go.

Across Hertfordshire, roaming bands are booked for weddings and events in and around Hertford, St Albans and Watford. Venues in the area include Chenies Manor House, Knebworth House & Barns and Pendley Manor Hotel, and their gardens, terraces and reception rooms are ideal for a band moving between groups of guests.

Not every roaming act does the same job. A duo can move quietly between tables and small groups, a trio or four-piece fills a large lawn, and a brass band makes a real entrance. Knowing where your guests will be makes the choice much easier.

We've been booking live bands since 1999, and every roaming act on this page covers Hertfordshire. Travel is built into the quote, the band brings what it needs to be heard, and you can check your date and price straight away with the instant quote button.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • The band moves around the room, playing to small groups of guests at a time
  • No stage and usually no power needed
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Roaming bands are often booked for outdoor receptions, so agree a covered alternative with your venue. Acoustic acts can move inside in minutes, and most are happy to play in a marquee, a conservatory or a covered terrace.

A duo or trio typically starts from around £800, while a four-piece or brass band for a longer reception can reach £2,500 or more. The date and your set times make a difference too. The price in your quote includes travel, so it won't change once you've booked.

Each roaming act's page carries real video, audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. A couple of clips will tell you far more about how a band works a room than any description can.

Enter your date and venue in the instant quote button for live pricing and availability. After you book, we look after the contract, deposit and details, and keep in touch right up to the event. You also get a 14-day change-of-mind refund and an emergency contact number to use on the day.

FAQs

A roaming band plays acoustically while moving around the room or garden, stopping to play to small groups of guests at a time rather than performing from a stage. They're ideal for wedding drinks receptions, garden parties and corporate events where guests are mingling.

Usually not. Most roaming acts play fully acoustic, so they need no stage, PA or power. If they also play a static set with amplification, they'll let you know what they need.

Yes, and many bookings are outdoors. It's worth agreeing a covered spot with the venue in case of rain, and roaming acts can move inside quickly if the weather changes.

From around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two or three sets of 30 to 45 minutes, which covers a typical wedding drinks reception. Longer bookings, or a mix of roaming and static sets, can be arranged when you enquire.

Yes. Many couples book a roaming act for the drinks reception and a separate band or DJ for the evening. We can quote for both together.

“We're so grateful to Detroit Vintage Duo. They were perfect for the drinks reception. We wanted to create a happy and chilled atmosphere and they did this for us. They sounded awesome and played a fabulous range of music (that I saw everyone singing along to). I also need to highlight how helpful and lovely they were and how we wouldn't have been able to have the ceremony we wanted without them. We wanted our brother to sing us down the aisle, outside. We weren't sure how to do this as we couldn't use extension cables etc... Detroit Vintage Duo not only gave loads of advice on this but ended up coming early to loan my brother their equipment. Thank you so, so much guys.”

“We had an absolute ball throughout the day, and greatly appreciate the contribution you guys made – possibly the second most talked about part of the event (after the bride of course!)”

“Tommy & Sons were absolutely brilliant. We hired them for our wedding as we wanted the folk style music and they delivered and then some. Our first dance was amazing, and hats off to them for learning it as it was a very niche song that we've only found available on Youtube, they absolutely nailed it. Not only did they deliver exceptional performances, which were commented on over and over by the guests, they were also a really nice bunch of lads. At one point after set up, our 2 1/2 year old daughter decided she wanted to have a go on the drums and they were so accommodating of her. If you're in 2 minds as to whether to book them, just do it, you will not be disappointed”

“Just a note to say that we hugely enjoyed having Detroit Vintage Duo play at our wedding on 17 June. Paul has been amazing to work with and reassuringly on the ball. One thing I really didn't need to worry about in a sea of many other worries! Paul and Helen pulled off two excellent sets, which everybody enjoyed. My aunt, who's been having a terrible time with family ill health and hadn't been seen dancing since the 1960s, danced her heart out and had a blast. As we all did. The guys even learned a traditional Jewish wedding song in between sets at the (unreasonable) request of a family member. So big kudos there too. Amazing times and memories. Biggest thanks,”

“Ahh what a day! We’ve had so so so many compliments on you guys and lots of people asking for your details :) it was just perfect and we couldn’t have asked for better music, atmosphere etc. you guys absolutely nailed it.”

“They were absolutely incredible. The quality of the performance was every bit as good (if not better than) the videos on the website, but far more importantly was how amazing they were as people. The guys were all wonderful to have at the wedding - fun, professional and able to read the crowd like only the best bands can. We had a full dance floor all night (with the exception of a couple of tracks dancing in the rain, fully supported by the band themselves!) We cannot recommend them enough!”
