Jazz Bands in Swansea

Hire live jazz in Swansea

Jazz is one of the most flexible kinds of live music you can book. In Swansea it works as background for a wedding breakfast or networking reception, a set for a long dinner or an evening of swing and jump jive, and the line-up can be shaped around the event rather than the other way round.

Popular event venues in Swansea include King Arthur Hotel, Oxwich Bay Hotel and Oldwalls Gower, and our jazz acts travel to events across Neath, Swansea Marina and Llanelli. Wherever your event is, tell us the venue when you enquire and we'll help you choose a line-up that suits the space.

Not every jazz band sounds the same. You'll find smooth lounge trios, gypsy jazz groups in the Django Reinhardt tradition, trad and New Orleans bands, Latin and bossa nova specialists, and acts who give chart songs a jazz treatment. It's worth deciding which mood you're after before comparing prices.

Since 1999, Hireaband has matched live musicians with events of every size. The jazz acts listed here all travel to Swansea, include their travel in the price, and arrive with their own sound set-up where the room needs it. The instant quote button shows pricing and availability for your date in a few seconds.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up and date
  • Line-ups from solo pianist or duo through to a five or six-piece jazz band
  • Background sets for receptions and dinners, or livelier swing for dancing
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

For a reception or dinner, a duo or trio is usually enough: it fills the room with sound without making conversation hard. Larger rooms, or events where people will dance, suit a quartet or bigger, with drums and a saxophone or trumpet adding energy. Many acts can start small and add musicians for the later set.

Most jazz bookings fall between about £500 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by how long they play and the date — a Saturday in summer or December costs more than a weekday. Travel is included in the quote you receive, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Each jazz act's page carries real video and audio, a song list and reviews from previous clients. Watching a couple of clips tells you far more about the feel of a band than any description can, so it's worth listening before you choose.

Enter your date and venue in the instant quote button for live pricing and availability. After you book, we look after the contract, deposit and details, and keep in touch right up to the event. You also get a 14-day change-of-mind refund and an emergency contact number to use on the day.

FAQs

Jazz works particularly well for wedding drinks receptions, corporate dinners, awards evenings, garden parties and milestone celebrations — anywhere you want live music that adds atmosphere without stopping conversation. Many acts can also play a livelier swing set later for dancing.

Yes. Most jazz acts are used to playing at a volume that lets guests talk comfortably, especially duos and trios. Tell the band the room and the purpose of each set, and they'll pitch the volume and repertoire to suit.

A trio is usually piano or guitar, double bass and vocals or a lead instrument — ideal for receptions and dinners. A quartet or quintet adds drums and often saxophone or trumpet for a fuller sound, and a larger band gives you the energy for a dance floor.

A duo or trio needs very little: a small corner of the room and, in some cases, a single power socket. Larger bands with drums and amplification need more floor space and power nearby, so it's worth checking with your venue in Swansea before booking.

From around £500 for a jazz duo to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The line-up, how long they play and the date make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Yes. Each act lists its repertoire, and most are happy to learn a special request with enough notice. If you have a style in mind — standards, gypsy jazz, bossa nova or swing — choose an act that specialises in it.

“We booked this band for a charity event. From first contact they were very positive and understanding of the type of evening we wanted, and they delivered exactly as promised. They play a lovely mix of music and are obviously very talented musicians. They offer a sophisticated repertoire of swing era music and we would highly recommend them for this type of occasion. They are also a very nice group of people.”

“Dear Mike, I know I thanked you on the night but just wanted to do so again in the cold light of day. You and your band were fantastic, not just brilliant at the music but also lovely, helpful and a total pleasure to work with.
Thank you so much and please pass my thanks on to your team.
My Mother literally had the party of her life and you were a big part of that.... you were exceptional.”

“Joe has played for us 5 times now and never fails to disappoint. He adds a fun & classy atmosphere to our bar every time he plays and our customers come down especially to see him play. Would highly recommend!”

“Many thanks Irving for finding such a brilliant band for us. The music really livened up the hall and everyone enjoyed the music. Despite the weather and having to move the event indoors, the band sounded wonderful in the great hall at Trinity Hall. It was a very memorable evening.”

“From start to finish the communication from Irving (HireABand) and Max (Badass Brass) have been excellent. On the lead up to the big day Max was very helpful and patient and teh performance itself went down a storm. I would highly recommend both to anyone in the future.”
