There's a surprisingly wide range of instruments that sound fabulous and are naturally acoustic.  The guitar is the obvious one, but of course there are harps, violins, in fact entire string ensembles and one of the most popular, the saxophone.

So if a power supply isn't available or you simply want to have music played live (the way it should be) but without overpowering your event, or hampering your guests ability to have a chat, then going down the acoustic route makes a lot of sense.
