In the middle of Lancaster on Meeting House Lane, The Storey occupies a grand Victorian building that started life as the city's Mechanics' Institute and later its museum and art gallery — original architecture, a marble statue of Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort still in situ, and a genuinely striking Gallery room lit by a lantern roof spanning four original trusses.
Where the band plays
The Gallery is the main event space — seated for 150 or standing for 200 — with natural light through the lantern by day and a proper bar-and-dancefloor feel once it's dressed for the evening. It's a good-sized room for a full band, with enough floor for the crowd to move without the sound overwhelming the space. Smaller weddings sometimes use the Music Room instead, seated for around 100, where we'd scale down to a smaller line-up. The venue has Wi-Fi, PA and AV support built in as standard, and the team are used to outside suppliers setting up around their own bar service.
How the day flows
Being a city-centre venue, The Storey suits a wedding that wants Lancaster itself as part of the backdrop — the Castle and Priory a short walk away for photographs, Dalton Square and the Georgian streets around it. Ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening party can all run in the building across different rooms, so guests aren't moving far, and turning the Gallery from dining layout to dancefloor is quick enough that we can be soundchecked and ready to open the evening the moment the room's cleared.
