Sledmere House has sat at the top of the Yorkshire Wolds for more than 250 years, an 18th-century Grade II listed stately home set in 150 acres of rolling, Capability Brown-inspired parkland. Inside, the grand Marble Hall makes a genuinely impressive setting for a ceremony, seating up to 110, while the wider house can seat 150 for the meal that follows.
For a bigger celebration, the estate's own Sykes Barn is the real draw: a characterful space of exposed beams and brick archways around its own courtyard, licensed for up to 250 guests. The venue is explicit that both live music and discos are permitted, which is not something every historic estate states outright, and the Sykes Barn charges no corkage, giving couples more freedom over drinks than the main house's pre-approved caterer list allows elsewhere on the estate.
A honeymoon suite sleeping four sits on site for the couple, and the venue provides its own wedding coordinator to help the day run smoothly, including for the suppliers working alongside the caterers.

The Sykes Barn is built for exactly this: its scale and hard surfaces mean a full band fills the room properly, and the courtyard setting gives it a slightly separate, party atmosphere once the meal in the main house is done. Its own no-corkage policy and explicit welcome for live music make it one of the more straightforward East Yorkshire barns to plan an evening around.
Arriving, loading in and heading home
Onsite car parking and good disabled access make loading in straightforward for a band's equipment, and being a private estate rather than a town venue, evenings here tend to have more flexibility than usual, though it is always worth confirming the finish time and any sound limiter with Sledmere House directly when booking.
