Brockencote Hall is the sort of house that photographs as if someone dressed the set. It stands at Chaddesley Corbett, in the lanes between Kidderminster and Bromsgrove, a grand Victorian manor with a distinctly French accent to its architecture — steep roofs, tall windows, the confident silhouette of a small chateau dropped into the English midlands. Around it lie 70 acres of parkland with a lake, a restored dovecote and, on a clear day, the long blue line of the Malvern Hills in the distance.
What lifts it above the average country-house hotel is the food. The Malvern Restaurant, under head chef Tim Jenkins, holds 3 AA Rosettes, and Le Colonial bistro and lounge handles the more relaxed end of things; the hotel was named AA Small Hotel Group of the Year for 2024-25. For a wedding that matters more than it sounds, because it means the wedding breakfast is cooked by a kitchen that takes its own reputation seriously rather than by a banqueting operation working from a separate, lesser menu. Guests notice, and they talk about it afterwards.
There are 24 bedrooms, so the closest of your party can stay and the party doesn’t end in a queue for taxis. Only one wedding is hosted a day, with a dedicated coordinator and exclusive use available, and the numbers stay at a comfortable, civilised scale — around 90 for the wedding breakfast and up to 140 in the evening. That is a house party rather than a banquet, which suits the building enormously.
Where the band plays
A wedding of this size is a lovely one to bring live music to. With around 140 people in for the evening you are looking at a room that a four or five-piece can fill without needing to be pushed hard, and at a crowd small enough that the band can actually read them — who wants the brass, who wants the slow one, when to stretch a song because the floor is full. Country houses tend to have a natural party room with the bar close by and the garden on the other side of the door, so ask on your viewing which space they set up for dancing and where a stage usually goes.
Ceremony, drinks and the grounds
The hall is licensed for civil ceremonies and the grounds do a great deal of work during the middle of the day: drinks on the lawns, a wander down towards the lake, photographs by the dovecote while everyone else has another glass. Being a hotel with guests staying over, Brockencote doesn’t advertise a set carriages time, so agree the finish when you book and build the band’s sets around it.
