Roaming Bands in Derbyshire

Roaming wedding bands for drinks receptions in Derbyshire

When guests are spread across a lawn, a terrace or several rooms, a roaming band keeps the atmosphere going everywhere at once. The band moves from group to group, playing a song or two for each before moving on. Across Derbyshire, these acts are a favourite for weddings and summer events, playing acoustic pop, swing, jazz, folk and brass.

Across Derbyshire, roaming bands are booked for weddings and events in and around Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton. Venues in the area include Thornbridge Hall, Tissington Hall and Osmaston Park, and their gardens, terraces and reception rooms are ideal for a band moving between groups of guests.

Not every roaming act does the same job. A duo can move quietly between tables and small groups, a trio or four-piece fills a large lawn, and a brass band makes a real entrance. Knowing where your guests will be makes the choice much easier.

Hireaband has been booking live music since 1999. Every roaming act here travels to Derbyshire as standard, brings the equipment it needs, and the quote you receive includes travel. Use the instant quote button on this page to check prices and availability for your date.

The essentials:

  • Typical cost: from around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band, depending on line-up, date and set times
  • The band moves around the room, playing to small groups of guests at a time
  • No stage and usually no power needed
  • Travel is included in every quote
  • Every booking carries a 14-day change-of-mind refund

Most roaming acts play in sets of 30 to 45 minutes. Rather than staying in one place, they move around the room, stop with a group of guests for a song or two, then move on to the next. Many can also play a static set during a meal or on a terrace, so mention it if you'd like both.

Most roaming band bookings fall between about £800 and £2,500. The number of musicians is the biggest factor, followed by the date and how long they play. Travel is included in the quote, so the figure you're given is the figure you pay.

Every act's page has video and audio of the musicians who would actually play, their repertoire and written reviews from people who have booked them. It's the easiest way to check the style and the atmosphere before you commit.

The instant quote button gives you a price and availability for your date straight away. From there, we manage the contract and deposit and keep you updated until the event. Every booking is covered by a 14-day change-of-mind refund, and there's an emergency contact line on the day in case anything needs sorting.

FAQs

A roaming band plays acoustically while moving around the room or garden, stopping to play to small groups of guests at a time rather than performing from a stage. They're ideal for wedding drinks receptions, garden parties and corporate events where guests are mingling.

Usually not. Most roaming acts play fully acoustic, so they need no stage, PA or power. If they also play a static set with amplification, they'll let you know what they need.

Yes, and many bookings are outdoors. It's worth agreeing a covered spot with the venue in case of rain, and roaming acts can move inside quickly if the weather changes.

From around £800 for a smaller act to £2,500 or more for a larger band. The number of musicians, the date and the length of the booking make the biggest difference, and travel is always included in the quote.

Most play two or three sets of 30 to 45 minutes, which covers a typical wedding drinks reception. Longer bookings, or a mix of roaming and static sets, can be arranged when you enquire.

Yes. Many couples book a roaming act for the drinks reception and a separate band or DJ for the evening. We can quote for both together.

“Honestly, you got the atmosphere so perfect. We couldn’t have been more pleased with how it all went on the roof … my only regret is not having more time!!! Everything was literally better than we imagined so thank you for this (it’s always nerve racking when you have never seen a band in real life before!) Thanks so so much!”

“Tommy & Sons were an excellent band choice for a client's summer party hosted at the Secret River Garden in Twickenham. As a new venue, I had some slight reservations about many aspects of the planning but booking this band, Tommy & Sons was not one of them! The guys were super polite, energetic, personable & friendly mingling (and singing too) with guests. Getting this particular client up and off their feet was a great achievement in itself! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone! Thank you for everything Hireaband - you made the booking process so easy and smooth. Best wishes, Paul F”

“You were the talk of the wedding! Our evening band was fabulous but everyone raved about you! It was a great energy. Andrew and I hoped it would go like that but you never really know. It was beyond what we imagined”

“Tommy & Sons = AMAZING! They are worth every penny. We chose them for our wedding and were not disappointed. Aside from being prompt and having great communication with Hireaband throughout, the band were so friendly and their music was so superb that the dance floor was never empty. So many comments from guests saying how good they were, I almost wish we were getting married again to have them back! Would highly recommend and will definitely have them for any parties in the near future. Thank you again, it made our wedding.”

“Wonderful band and such fun, had the crowd singing and enjoying themselves. We would have loved to have more. Throughout the wedding plans Zack was really responsive to queries, exceptionally professional. Would certainly book again”

“My wife and I cannot speak highly enough of Tommy & Sons. Their performance at our wedding was the perfect balance of indie swagger and crow pleasing favourites. The band themselves are friendly and relaxed. The inclusion of a handful of pop-punk anthems was greatly appreciated by many of the guests old enough to know better.”
