Originally from Stafford, he studied at Birmingham Conservatoire before graduating from the BMus Jazz programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2016, where he studied under celebrated Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith. He's also one of the saxophonists with The Vintage Explosion, giving him regular stage experience alongside a full live band on top of his solo work.

Overview
James Michael is a professional saxophonist based in Glasgow, bringing genuine jazz pedigree to weddings and events across Scotland.
Originally from Stafford, he studied at Birmingham Conservatoire before graduating from the BMus Jazz programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2016, where he studied under celebrated Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith. He's also one of the saxophonists with The Vintage Explosion, giving him regular stage experience alongside a full live band on top of his solo work.
James offers two distinct sides to his playing: a smooth, sophisticated jazz repertoire — drawing on standards like "Autumn Leaves," "Take the A Train" and "Girl from Ipanema" — perfect for a drinks reception or ceremony, and a high-energy Ibiza-style party set built around dance anthems that reliably gets guests up and moving. Whichever style suits your event, James adapts his playing to the room rather than sticking rigidly to one mode.
James provides his own PA system and is experienced working with venue sound limiters. Performance options include a one-hour ceremony, a two-hour daytime drinks reception, two 45-minute sets, or a high-energy "Power Hour." James Michael is available exclusively through Hireaband.
