A huge question to consider when planning the biggest party of your life is going to be – how much does it cost to hire a wedding band in Scotland?

Let’s cut to the chase. You can expect to spend between £800 and £3,000 on an experienced live band.

Why the big difference? There are 4 main things that determine how much you’ll pay;

• The number of musicians in the band. More musicians, more people to pay. There are exceptions of course particularly if a band is very popular.
• The experience a band has. New bands tend to be less expensive as they want to fill their diaries as quickly as possible.
• Very popular bands are booked two and even three years in advance. That means they can increase their fees as there’s a large number of couples keen to book.
• Travel costs. If you’re asking a band from Glasgow to play at your wedding in Inverness, then travel and accommodation will make them more expensive.

 

How can you save money and still get a great band?

 

If you’re budget is under pressure there are ways you can still have superb entertainment without breaking the bank.

• Hire a fairly new band. Don’t for a second think that a new band won’t be any good. Even the busiest bands like Sneaky Treacle, The Trueloves and Carlyle started somewhere. In fact many new bands are made up of highly experienced and talented musicians that have decided to set up something fresh with friends or people they’ve always wanted to perform with – so don’t let a band being new together put you off.
• Hire a local band. Unlike The Beatles in the movie Help, band members don’t all live in the same house. They can be travelling quite some distance to get to your wedding, the further the more it will cost to cover fuel and in some cases their time.
• Hire a smaller band. Even if the smaller band you’re keen to book are at the more expensive end of the scale, just having fewer people to pay and to transport (see above) can save money.
