Black Woods are a guitar and violin duo based in Scotland, made up of real-life couple Laura and Aaron, who between them arrange and perform pop, traditional, jazz, classical, indie and folk music for two acoustic instruments. Despite being just a duo, reviewers consistently note how full and rich their sound is — one described being unable to believe it was "only a guitar and violin playing."
Laura is a Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate bringing classical precision and technical skill, while Aaron, a University of West London graduate from Edinburgh, brings feel and improvisation from years in the jazz, rock and blues scene. Both are professional session musicians and teachers who met through their work, and that combination of styles gives Black Woods a sound that's rooted in traditional feel but not afraid to experiment.
Black Woods are ideal daytime entertainment for weddings and events — ceremonies, drinks receptions and everything in between — with a set list covering everything from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay to Vivaldi, traditional Scottish airs and a ceilidh set. They'll learn new music for a couple's aisle walk or first dance on request.
Black Woods are available exclusively through Hireaband.

Black Woods were fantastic! They played beautifully during our ceremony and drinks reception. Thanks again!
Black Woods were fantastic at our wedding ceremony and reception. They were a pleasure to deal with and engaging throughout the process and willing to learn new music for our ceremony.
The music they played at the ceremony was absolutely beautiful and moving. The music during the reception was brilliant and kept everyone entertained. We especially enjoyed the Christmas songs.
We would highly recommend them, they were excellent.
Black Woods were fantastic! Aaron and Laura are highly skilled musicians who added a touch of class to our day. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else.
Black Woods were absolutely fantastic. They are clearly very talented and were capable of playing a broad range of music that added a the perfect atmosphere to our wedding. They even learnt a few songs for us to play during the aisle walk and reception! My wife and I were very grateful for their support and I'd recommend them to anyone.
The agency was very proactive and professional, fast responding to questions. The band was lovely, the two are absolutely delightful. So friendly, organised, punctual, and the music was just wonderful. We are very happy we decided to go for it as it made our ceremony truely special. Thanks to all of you
Everyone had a great time, the dance floor was never empty! It was a pleasure working with you prior to the event and your playing was superb on the night. I will have no hesitation in recommending you for future events.
We could not believe it was only a guitar and violin playing! It sounded as full as a band.
