Get to Know the Best Bands in Scotland - Rollin Drones

Rollin Drones

Rollin Drones are the spirit and essence of Scotland - in a band! As likely to have you wheeching round the room to bagpipes as electric guitars, this really is two bands in one. Great musicians, lovely people and absolute loons - exactly what you need to entertain guests at a Scottish wedding or event.

They're a bit hyper so we had to tape them to some chairs to get the answers to our questions. Here they are:

What’s the furthest you’ve travelled to play a gig?

We drove to Hannover, Germany, for a corporate gig for Edinburgh Airport. That was around a 19-hour journey - with a stopover in Brudges for curry (dinner) and waffles (brekkie). You’d think a journey that long would drive us bananas but it’s no biggie - we’ve got a PS4 in the van and there’s nothing a double caramel Magnum at a European service station cannae sort.

Which is your favourite wedding venue to perform in?

To us, it’s the people that make the wedding rather than the venue. Any venue where the staff are good craic and it’s a straightforward load-in suits us fine. We’re no fussy!

Which is your favourite non-wedding venue to perform in?

We love playing festivals - playing Eilean Dorcha on Benbecula is a regular highlight of ours, and we also have a great time playing Jura Whisky Festival. We’re off to Islay to play Feis Ile in 2022. Cannae wait!

Which is your favourite song to perform?

We have soooo many that we love - our policy is, if we dinnae love it, it’s no going in the set. Thanks to our World Champion piper Greg, a lot of our modern songs have jigs and reels infused - it’s Scottish AF and it goes down an absolute belter.

Which is the most popular first dance you’re asked to play?

We’re not sure about the most popular song, but there’s definitely been a whole lotta Ed Sheehan in our repertoire recently! We did a cover of Skerryvore’s ‘Take My Hand’ for a first dance at a recent wedding, it’s a cracker of a tune.

What’s the best thing about playing at a wedding?

The fact that we get to play tunes with our pals and spend the night getting to know guests and having a laugh with them. The van banter is always banging as well. We just have a really good time, to be honest!

What’s the worst thing about playing at a wedding?

It’s understandable that this happens in the moment, but we’d really rather that guests didn’t put their drinks on our £16k PA system :-) thank youuuu!

Apart from booking your band, what’s the best bit of advice you could give a couple planning their wedding?

Trust the process and put your faith in your suppliers - we know what we’re doing so you don’t need to stress about all the little things! We’re here to make your day bangin’.

Also, pack sneakers to dance in. Our vocalist Heather gave up on heels a loooong time ago and we rock the Converses at gigs - come to the dark side, it’s much more comfy

This is a seriously busy band and no wonder. If you're quick you may be lucky and find they're available on your date. How do you find out if they're available? Easy, visit their page for instant up to date availability - we'll even throw in an instant free quote. How'd you like that?
