Get to Know the Best Bands in Scotland - KC & the Nightshift

B6

We thought it would be a nice idea for people who have already booked or are thinking of booking one of the bands we represent to get to know them a bit better. So we compiled a list of questions and here is the response from KC & the Nightshift

This is a band we've known and worked with for years. They're based slap bang in the middle of Scotland and are one of the few bands in the country to include a rip roaring horn section. Here's the very latest feedback received today;

KC the Nightshift Feedback.

What’s the furthest you’ve travelled to play a gig?

Ooh, with the main band, probably London, as a solo guy I've performed all over including America... Which is very different for musicians, low pay, but big tips!

Which is your favourite wedding venue to perform in?

We really like Errol Park, Glenskirlie House and Brig O Doon. Anywhere with a nice big stage. Being a 6 piece band it’s a luxury having a bit of space between the instruments.

Which is your favourite non-wedding venue to perform in?

We really dig the BOX in Glasgow, cool wee Rock bar in town. Not the best sound, but the vibe is always good.

Which is your favourite song to perform?

Even though we've been playing it for 16 years, I still love playing Mr. Brightside, or any Killers tunes. It's really more about the audience interaction than the song. If it creates a vibe, and gets the floor bouncing, that keeps us happy!

Which is the most popular first dance you’re asked to play?

Over the years, there's a few that have been requested multiple times: Let's Stay Together by Al Green, My Girl, which are great for our horn section. Mr Sheeran songs were hugely popular for a couple of years. Our customers for some reason tend to like things that are a bit more quirky which is a challenge sometimes.

What’s the best thing about playing at a wedding?

Honestly, getting to do the thing I like best with people that are just amazing, every single week, and it never ever gets boring or old.

What’s the worst thing about playing at a wedding?

There's not much really, sound limiters and really awkward load ins, but We've seen it all and done it all, so there's not much that really gets us down...

Apart from booking your band, what’s the best bit of advice you could give a couple planning their wedding?

We've performed probably 1500 weddings or more. Don't sweat the small stuff, don't stress over the minutia or micro manage things. At the end of the day, all you need is good food, good people and good tunes... The bigger picture will always work out. And brides, bring FLIP FLOPS for the evening reception.
