Skythorn Ceilidh Band

Skythorn Ceilidh Band is made up of some of the finest traditional musicians in the world. Scotland is the home of ceilidh music and Skythorn are on of the reasons for the popularity of the genre. But ceilidh is only one aspect of this very versatile band.

Skythorn Ceilidh and Covers Band

Formed by five musicians with enviable talent and a vast wealth of experience in the music business, Skythorn are a ceilidh and covers band with a difference.

Skythorn use an eclectic mix of traditional and modern ceilidh music, giving the music a unique Celtic-fusion twist, with funky and syncopated rhythms. Many of our ceilidh tunes have been composed in a neo-traditional style by band members, and when added to our array of purely traditional tunes, this makes for the interesting and unexpected sets which ceilidh dancers cant help but love!

The band members in Skythorn have all had experience playing in different bands, some with many years experience together prior to forming and creating the fresh and exciting new sound of Skythorn..

Skythorn are more than just a ceilidh band, our sets are tailored on the spot to meet the needs of the particular set of guests at a wedding or event.

Often, once into the swing of our ceilidh music and dances, guests don™t want to stop. At other times we may find guests need a little break from ceilidh and we will slip into a set of polished pop and rock classics to change the mood. No two gigs are the same, and as each night unfolds we often change our mix of ceilidh and covers to suit the night and keep as many of your guests on the dance floor as possible, usually culminating in a manic Orkney reel then Loch Lomond or Auld Lang Syne to finish. Whatever your occasion or mood, Skythorn can provide a mix of music to suit.

Skythorn Ceilidh and Covers Band

We can also perform the odd piece of Celtic folk/funk/rock between dances if we feel guests need a breather, and just want to enjoy listening to some beautiful music.

Our caller Gillian is second to none, three times senior Scottish Highland Dancing champion, teacher of the art with many champions of her own, including senior Scottish and British champions, trained choreographer and composer. Gillian has ceilidh called all over the globe while touring with her own dance group, The Ballochleam Highland Dancers.

Gillian ensures that those who have never done a ceilidh dance in their lives still have a ball, and that the t get bored waiting until she organizes the beginners, a difficult balance to achieve.

And if pop/rock classics or a live band for the covers part of your event is not what you require, we work closely with a local disco, and can offer the option of ceilidh first half, and then disco after the break. Many years™ experience with the same disco outfit/DJs ensures a seamless transition from band to disco.
